tara goddardHello and welcome to my website, my name is Tara and I am the founder of Fabric Sewn Beautiful. Thanks for stopping by, whether you’re here to explore workshops or look at ordering a personalised gift, this has all come about because of one magical moment. I’ve always been the creative type, randomly creating projects, but one thing I never learnt was how to sew. This all changed after my second daughter (Aurora) turned two, she would not go to sleep unless I was sat by her bed holding her hand. Trying to sneak off after 5 minutes wasn’t doing the trick and clearly my ninja skills weren’t up to scratch. So one day I just asked her, “what would help you fall asleep without mummy being here all the time”. She replied “Something that reminds me of you, can you make me a doll?”
After nearly a year of sitting by her bed, I thought why not, I could do with a new hobby.
We began to gather the random fabric from craft boxes around the house, she chose each fabric peice making up a very mix match looking doll. It took me a few months to make, I really REALLY couldn’t sew then.
BUT then the magic moment happened and this is when Fabric Sewn Beautiful was born.
She held this doll in her tiny little hands and said it was the ‘best thing ever’ because I had made it. We called her ‘DOT’ as she was mainly made from polka dot fabric and she still sleeps with her every night 4 years later. She tells me what makes Dot so special to her is because I made it, and she got to choose all the fabric and thread colours as we went along. She was completely involved in the process, it was her choice and her design that made this unique to her. That twinkle in her eye when she first held Dot, is the reason I make personalised gifts and run workshops helping people to make their own gifts for loved ones.
As a wife and mum to two little girls in primary school, my business is built around my family. They see embroidering before the school run and doing workshops in half term, But we still make plenty of time for fun...
We build gingerbread houses at Christmas, do YES days and often make Den’s downstairs that cover every inch of the floor. Much like the residents who attend my workshops, I’ve created this business to show my girls what I CAN do, while still being there for them.
My passion for connection is woven into every workshop I run and gift I make, treating every person as if they were my family.
Although I’ve been in business for 3 years, my focus turned to workshops in May 2025, when I visited my first care home. I ran a dream pillow workshop with them and each resident left with a gorgeous pillow filled with lavender and stuffing, to take back to their room and show their families. It was the start of something incredibly powerful that I realised was missing in these homes. Seeing the realisation of what they CAN achieve and the pride in their accomplishment is honestly the highlight of my day and what drives me forward.
This one workshop spurred me on to create more like it, following the same sensory flow, delivering in different care homes and day centres for adults with additional learning needs across my local area (Somerset and Dorset).
I still design, make, package and deliver everything myself. If you book a workshop, I'll be the one walking through the door. If you order a personalised gift, I'll be the one reading your story, creating your piece and wrapping it with the same care I'd want for my own family.
That consistency matters to me because relationships are built through trust, familiarity and kindness.
Sustainability is also at the heart of what I do. I use repurposed fabric for my workshops and gifts and eco-friendly packaging wherever possible, creating products that can be enjoyed again and again while caring for the world around us.
Now you've made your way here, know you've found someone who will listen, understand what you need and design something for you that’s made for connection.
