Designed for you and made for connection. These workshops have been intentionally split into two ability levels to cater for your members so that they get the most from these sessions. Both end with a beautiful lavender filled gift they can give to family or keep, filling them with an incredible sense of pride and achievement, not to mention the thrill of giving the gift!
Every workshop is set up with calming, sensory elements on the table and all based around lavender and it’s wellbeing calming benefits. Frequently Asked Questions

Both the sensory and embroidery workshops are all run at a table, so as long as your individual can walk or be wheeled there, they can join in! There are adaptations I make during the workshop, to respond to individual needs, so everyone can participate. I would determine which workshop is best for your adults with learning disabilities before, so they can get the most from it. Embroidery is for high functioning adults whereas the sensory workshop takes a simpler approach.

The embroidery workshop involves handsewing then sewing on the machine in turns, the sensory workshop is just machine sewing. I will be there to guide them, some love the challenge, other’s prefer to watch me do it for them.
This is very much a personal choice on the day, but either way a carer / activity lead must take responsibility for the individual if they wish to use the machine.

My sensory wellbeing workshops are designed to support day care centres in delivering meaningful, person-centred activities that align with CQC's Single Assessment Framework. While no external activity provider can guarantee a CQC outcome, my workshops can provide valuable evidence of good practice, individual engagement and person-centred care.
Effective: Individuals actively participate in creating their own personalised lavender keepsake, making choices throughout the workshop and taking part at a pace that suits their abilities. This promotes independence, emotional wellbeing, confidence and meaningful occupation.
Caring: Every workshop focuses on dignity, respect and inclusion. I adapt each activity to the individual, encouraging each person to participate in a way that feels comfortable and celebrating what they can do.
Responsive: Individuals are encouraged to choose their own fabrics, colours and designs, creating something personal to them. This supports person-centred care by recognising individual preferences, abilities and interests rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Well led: With the appropriate permissions in place, I take photographs throughout each workshop that carers and wellbeing leads can use alongside their own activity records, observations and resident feedback. These can help evidence resident participation, engagement, social interaction, achievement and meaningful activity during inspections.
Together, these elements help support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care while providing valuable evidence that can contribute towards CQC inspections.

Material wise, nothing, I bring everything with me! I will arrive 30-45 minutes prior to our start time to set up.
I will need a few tables put together depending on the number of attendees. This could be 2-3 tables. I also need a small table to the side next to a plug.
-
I recommend no more than 6 adults with learning disabilities, otherwise I do not get to respond to individual needs as they come up.
-
The sensory workshop takes about 1 hour depending on the individuals.
The embroidery workshop is normally 2.5 hours, giving enough time for everyone to finish their embroidery and sew their gift. So may be quicker than this, but the time is based on those that need the extra time, so no-one feels rushed.

Sensory bases activity boxes - these contain sensory elements and easy to follow instructions. Designed with story cards, so you can read aloud and together go on a gentle journey. Perfect for 1-1 time with your individuals and especially beneficial for those that are bedbound or non-verbal. This is a great option for families too wishing to connect more.

Thank you for taking the time to explore these workshops.
After each sensory and embroider workshop, every adult takes their ‘gift’ with them, this has so many benefits wrapped into one by allowing each individual to:
Show their achievement to others; incredibly powerful for personal pride and maintaining a sense of community.
Show family members giving their relatives the knowledge that their loved one is truly valued and cherished.
Each gift has its own wellbeing benefits that they can either gift to others or keep to use themselves. Gifts are either a pillow for comfort, a heart to aid sleep, or a wardrobe freshener to hang on their favourite outfit.
