Care Home Workshops in Somerset & Dorset
Designed for you and made for connection.
Each workshop is designed and delivered by me and moulded around your residents so I can respond to each of their needs. I’ve focused on bringing as many sensory aspects as possible, while still leaving that lovely choice and independence they cherish.
In every workshop I use lavender for it’s wellbeing benefits, so each one is perfect for both men and women. As a natural healer, it has a clever way of chemically calming the mind and body, but I also used as a bridge to the emotional and memory centre of the brain. The workshops are calming, relaxing environments, specifically designed so forgotten memories can bubble to the surface once more.
Residents of all abilities are welcome to join these workshops. For the Sensory Workshop, Fabric Sewn Beautiful will sew any fabric gifts on a machine. Residents will not be required to either hand sew or use the machine. This ensures your residents have a safe and fully sewn fabric creation they can be proud of and use for themselves or give to a loved one.

The benefits of these workshops
Thank you for taking the time to explore these workshops. After each sensory and craft workshop, every resident takes their ‘gift’ with them, this has so many benefits wrapped into one:
It allows residents to share and show their achievement to others; incredibly powerful for a sense of community and that persons own pride.
Residents can show family members when they visit or when they go home; giving the family knowledge that their loved one is being truly cherished.
The gift carries its own wellbeing benefits; each one is a wellbeing aid the resident can either gift to another person, or keep to use. Gifts examples include a pillow, a heart to help them sleep, or a wardrobe freshener to hang on their favourite outfit.
Driven by passion for care, quality and the use of repurposed materials to help reduce waste and protect our planet...

I believe that every person deserves to feel seen, valued and included. That's why each resident is invited to choose and create something that reflects who they are, whether it's a favourite colour, a treasured memory or simply a design that brings them happiness. There is no right or wrong, only the freedom to create something uniquely their own.
These gentle, sensory-led workshops encourage independence, nurture confidence and provide meaningful moments that celebrate every individual's personality. The finished creations become lasting reminders of those moments, proudly displayed throughout the home for residents, families and visitors to enjoy.
Many of the activities include beautifully scented lavender, chosen not only for its calming properties but for the memories it can awaken. Scent is one of our strongest connections to the past, often sparking conversations, smiles and precious stories that may otherwise have remained untold. For those living with dementia, these small moments of recognition can be incredibly powerful.
Designed to be inclusive, the workshops allow more residents to take part together, creating opportunities for friendship, conversation and shared experiences. Every finished piece, from framed artwork and collages to handmade cards and lavender creations, continues to bring warmth and colour to the home long after the workshop has ended.
Behind every session is a commitment to quality, sustainability and thoughtful care. I use repurposed materials wherever possible, helping to reduce waste while making preparation easy for care teams. This allows staff to spend less time organising activities and more time doing what they do best – supporting the people they care for.
It's about so much more than making something beautiful. It's about helping people feel connected, respected and proud of what they've created, one meaningful moment at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions

The story of lavender workshop was designed so that less mobile residents or bed bound residents can be wheeled in and be part of the experience. Eseentially this is a one the whole home can enjoy.
The sensory and craft workshop are all run at a table, so as long as your resident can walk or be moved there, they can join in! There are adaptations I make during the workshop, to respond to individual needs, so every resident can participate.

No, I bring my machine with me and I sew up what the residents make. This ensures it’s a wellbeing gift they can give to a loved one or keep for themselves and you can rest assured it’s made to a high standard.
For the seasonal designs you may see in photos, these are pre-embroidered by me and residents simply choose from the selection on the day.
Giving your residents the thrill of making a beautiful handmade gift they can cherish.

Lavender is used within the workshops for it’s natural wellbeing benefits associated with calm feelings and sleep. Lavender does this by reacting with chemicals in the brain that physically slow heart rates, releasing a hormone that tells us to be calm. As a side effect it means anyone experiencing stress will begin to calm themselves down, individuals with advanced dementia have found this incredibly beneficial.
Residents leave these workshops feeling a sense of accomplishment of what they have achieved. Gifting these then to loved ones, when the option of ‘popping down the shop’ is no longer there, is quiet powerful.
I’ve had residents give to their daughters, grandchildren and partners when they have been on respite. When the family receive these precious items or see their loved one doing this workshop, they feel they are truly taken care of and valued by you, just as they would be at home.
During the workshop, I take various photos, faces and hands only when no consent is in place for that resident. This means you can share these unique moments with the families and community on the platform you use for your home, most use facebook. Showcasing this, will drive future clients to see the joy and happiness residents are feeling, meaning a good reputation for activities within your home.

Material wise, nothing, I bring everything with me! I will arrive 30-45 minutes prior to our start time to set up.
Set up - a lounge setting works best for the Story of Lavender Workshop, so I can move between the chairs to hand items to your residents.
For the Sensory and Craft Workshops I need a few tables put together depending on your resident numbers. This could be 2-3 tables. For the Sensory Workshops only, I need a small table to the side next to a plug.

The Story of Lavender Workshop is ideal for the whole home, so it’s really how many residents you can fit into your lounge!
Sensory Workshops, I recommend no more than 6, otherwise I do not get to respond to residents needs as they come up.
Craft Workshops, are no more than 10, this is more of a creative workshop and most residents are ok doing this on their own, although less mobile and advanced dementia residents may need additional help.

The Story of Lavender Workshop can last between 30 minutes to 1.5 hours - it really depends on the residents. The longest time I’ve taken is 2 hours as the memories just came flooding back for so many and each one spurred on a new conversation! It’s a great workshop to enhance a sense of community and belonging in the home.
Sensory and Craft Workshops can take between 1-2 hours depending on the residents. Some like to sit and chat with the others after they are done, other residents come in half way through and want to join in. Giving a 2-hour window means we can account for both of these scenarios, helping your residents to feel happy and seen.

My dementia-friendly wellbeing workshops are designed to support care homes in delivering meaningful, person-centred activities that align with CQC's Single Assessment Framework. While no external activity provider can guarantee a CQC outcome, my workshops can provide valuable evidence of good practice, resident engagement and person-centred care.
Effective – Residents actively participate in creating their own personalised lavender keepsake, making choices throughout the workshop and taking part at a pace that suits their abilities. This promotes independence, emotional wellbeing, confidence and meaningful occupation.
Caring – Every workshop focuses on dignity, respect and inclusion. I adapt each activity to the individual, encouraging residents to participate in a way that feels comfortable and celebrating what they can do.
Responsive – Residents are encouraged to choose their own fabrics, colours and designs, creating something personal to them. This supports person-centred care by recognising individual preferences, abilities and interests rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Well-led – With the appropriate permissions in place, I take photographs throughout each workshop that care homes can use alongside their own activity records, observations and resident feedback. These can help evidence resident participation, engagement, social interaction, achievement and meaningful activity during inspections.
Together, these elements help support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care while providing valuable evidence that can contribute towards CQC inspections.

I can even make a bigger heart from satin embroidered with your home’s name on to sit proudly on your reception tree!
Activity Boxes - based on the ‘story of lavender’, this activity box contains all the sensory elements I present throughout the workshop. Designed with story cards, so you can read aloud the journey I would have taken you on. Perfect for 1-1 time with your residents and especially beneficial for those that are bedbound or non-verbal.
